Ossicles

This is the lid for my container- planning the pattern for the holes to drill was a lot harder than expected! I used a compass, string and a lot of eye balling.

Individually cleaning ball pins. I like how every ball pin is different- it has this creepy organic feel to it.

Cleaned the lid and riveted all the ball pins through. This was such a repetitive and tedious job (as was the rest of it).

Little domes approximately 4mm wide with 1mm drill in the centre.

All riveted through, including my polymer clay beads! The lid took me 3 full days to do and I was relieved and beyond over it when completed. In this picture it displays more clearly the kind of pentagonal pattern/sequence I was going for.

Here is a full picture of the container. The base is basically an identical hemisphere as the lid. The piece is approximately 43mm tall.

Postcard for presentation.

Quad

For graphics we're making a portfolio so I've just been playing around with some previous illustrations to create a bit more of a narrative and variation.

Diagram for graphics

For graphics we were asked to design a diagram that went with our portfolio. I decided to be a bit more playful and create this growing organism as a metaphor for my design process. It's kind of a coral, broccoli, plant like thing.

Creation

Hand made brass pin.
Approx. 3.5cm x 5cm
Pin length Approx. 8.8cm

The Iban people tell of Ara and Irik, two bird spirits floating above an expanse of water at the beginning of time. Seizing two eggs from the water, Ara made the sky from one egg, whille Irik made the earth from the other. As Irik squeezed the earth into its proper size, mountains & rivers appeared on its surface. Then the two creator spirits shaped bits of earth into the first people & woke them to life with bird cries.

Interested in the mythology of birds and creation, I want to make a pin that would encapsulate the story. Taking details from the story and combining them together will visually communicate the idea of creation and birth.

Lost & Found

It's interesting how when you look back at things in the past... you didn't quite understand then. However as you become older things start to make more sense. Being the only girl with three brothers we didn't share similar interests while growing up. I preferred barbie dolls, stickers and having nice diaries. Growing up I developed having an imaginary friend; identical to me and liked what I liked. And now that I look back at this, she filled in the void of what was missing: a companion.

In this neck piece, I used embroidery, watercolour and wool. The colours are to represent this state of play including the emotions developed by this interaction. The two sides coming from behind the neck is to represent the development of something that comes from a darker place (an adaptive response to loneliness).

Update

I haven't posted in forever... so I will start posting all the work that I have done for the previous semester. Using Vectorworks for the first time this semester was confusing but was good once you get the hang of it. For computers this semester we had to render objects:

My attempt at rendering a Nintendo DS

Rendering an oven and placing it into a room. My version of a cafe!

Post-it notes

Recently did an assessment based on the personality of one of my uni friends. Used the idea of post-it notes (as she uses them often) and built upon that. I've been really busy lately as drowning in assessments seems never ending. Oh, I am also starting to do model making. Never in my whole entire life did I think I would ever have to do it.

Old Process Diary

I was cleaning my room today and I came across my process diary from HSC. I think it's really interesting to look back onto previous works because you can see what's working and what's not. But it's also really strange because I look at this and I look at my works now and I think they're totally different.

Still been busy with uni work however I'm on mid-semester break soon so that should give me some time to work on my new project I had in mind!
Anyways, here are some scans of my process diary.

Untitled

Just started uni again this week, now that I'm in design it makes me miss fine arts. Design thinking is totally different to fine arts but I'll somehow manage. :)

Untitled

This is a photograph for one of my assignments for uni, unfortunately I didn't use this one for the final product although I wish I did.
